In a world that’s constantly bombarding us with information and distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of the small things that bring us joy and make life worth living. I would like to remind us to slow down, look around, and appreciate the beauty in the everyday moments of life.
From taken a pen and scribbling shapes on a piece of paper, all the way through to making detail-rich artistic scenes, I will often explore the simple pleasures that we often overlook. From the sound of rain on the roof to the warmth of a cup of tea on a chilly day. I encourage us to take notice of the details that make each day special, and to find joy in the little moments that make up our lives.
I am a fan of art therapy and will often use pen and paper to achieve sustained calm. Books like Drawing on Anxiety: Finding Calm through Creativity by Kate Sutton have been quite helpful for me.
I have been focussing on mindfulness, gratitude and contentment, lately. By reminding myself to pay attention to the present moment, I am cultivating a sense of mindfulness that is helping me to feel more connected to my life and to the people around me. And so, I want to encourage you too to appreciate the small things, and to develop a sense of gratitude for all that you have – even when there is still a lot more that you want.
Even in difficult times, I find that there is still beauty to be found in the world.
Whether we’re facing a global pandemic, a personal crisis, or simply the everyday challenges of life – there is still joy to be found in the small moments of life.
I have started celebrating the simple pleasures of life. Remember to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the beauty in the world around you. Whether you’re looking for a moment of calm in a hectic world or simply a reminder to be grateful for all that you have, look inside for what is good, and look around you for what is beautiful. They are, and have always been there. All we have to do is notice.
